100+ Women Who Care

In August, 2017, seven women organized themselves into a steering committee to create 100+ Women Who Care South Georgian Triangle. Their intent is simple, fun, and impactful; four times a year over a hundred women come together and write a check for $100. Their donations are then combined to make a big difference by giving +$10,000 to a local charity. The concept is so compelling that by the first meeting the group had over 110 members. Today membership is over 175 women. 

What a difference this group has made to the South Georgian Triangle community! In one-hour meetings, four times a year, they have donated over $150,000 directly into the hands of ten charitable organizations serving those in need from Meaford, Creemore, Wasaga Beach, Stayner, Collingwood, and more. 

Members of 100+ Women Who Care nominate charitable organizations they want to support and all nominations go into a hat. Three charities are randomly drawn before each meeting. For each one, the nominating woman will have 10 minutes to make a brief presentation and handle any questions. Members then vote, and one charity is chosen for the group donation. Each member then writes a check (or donates online) for $100 to the chosen charity. The two charities presented who did not receive a donation are eligible for a subsequent meeting, and in the meantime have raised awareness in the community as to their needs and even, in the case of several, attracted volunteers. The other inspiring part of these meetings is that they always begin with an update from the charity who received the last donation as to the difference the +$10,000 donation has made in their ability to serve others.

Senator Gwen Boniface, speaking on the floor of the Senate last year, described 100+ Women Who Care South Georgian Triangle as “a groundswell of good will rising up in Georgian Bay”. This speaks to the incredible energy, power and love of 100+ women coming together to give back to their community.
