SECTIONING THE BRUCE
STORY & PHOTOS | CLAY DOLAN
GREY ROAD 19 TO GREY ROAD 119
When I hiked this section of Bruce
Trail,
I was pleasantly surprised. Initially I had picked
another trail to feature that looked good in the Bruce Trail
Conservancy’s Reference Guide, but found it was mostly
dual-track. So later that afternoon and almost as an after
thought, I decided to try this section of Bruce Trail that is close
to my home. The fall colours were spectacular and the trail it-
self is entertaining and varied. You’ll enjoy it.
Tucked away between Grey Rd. 19 and 119, it is
an easy portion to miss, but this “there and back”
hike has a classic Autumn feel. Old fence lines,
open fields and timeless Escarpment forests make
this jaunt along the Eastern edge of the Beaver
Valley one to remember.
To get there from Blue Mountain Village take
Grey Rd.19 through the round-a-bout and right at
the lights. Follow 19 as it turns right and climbs the
Escarpment. The Bruce Trail intersects Grey Rd.19
in between the 6
th
Line and Grey Rd.2. There is
parking on the shoulder of 19, but be careful. It is
a busy road so you want to pull as far off to the
side as possible, but watch out, as the ditch is
steeper than it looks.
