Escarpment Magazine Fall 2012
Guests
are encouraged to roam and explore
inside and out. A large and inviting living room
with a wood burning fireplace and plenty of
seating options is an ideal spot to curl up with
a good read. An executive boardroom with
French doors opening to outside decks pres-
ents a quiet, professional facility for small cor-
porate meetings and a two-storey Library
features fantastic seasonal views of the Fathom
Five National Park Archipelago. This room of-
fers striking views of late autumn storms and
mid-winter blows as they sweep dramatically
over Georgian Bay.
The therapeutic aura that emanates through
the open areas and secluded nooks at E’Terra
can be further enhanced by experiencing a
massage or holistic treatment performed onsite
by local registered therapists—such a pleasant
gift to oneself. I loved it! Also divine on a warm
day is the soothing saltwater pool.
The grounds extend in every direction through
a dense coniferous forest, dissected unobtru-
sively with several walking trails of various dis-
tances. Within minutes, the embrace of these
forest paths dare to transport one back to a
simpler time. Some guests have come away
with unexplained sightings — a young male
dressed in weathered buckskins. Certainly
there is a sacredness to this land - I couldn’t es-
cape the feeling or stop myself from wonder-
ing — who has been here? What is their story?
Laurie is deeply connected to the spirituality of
her surroundings. She knows the history so
well and is intrinsically linked to the energy of
the people who came before and to those who
are yet to come. She has accepted the role of
custodian of this mystical place and feels re-
sponsible for whatever happens to it. Regard-
less of the difficulties, or stumbling blocks
placed in her way, no compromises were
made in the building process nor in the day-to-
day operations and ongoing maintenance.
