Phil and Trish Caplan
and their combined family of four chil-
dren are entranced by everything about this region and over
the years, they have spent as much time as possible, relaxing,
playing and simply enjoying the Escarpment. Avid skiers and
members at Alpine Ski Club, where they had built a large home,
the family longed to relocate to a waterfront location but still
wanted to be within an easy distance to skiing, biking, hiking
and good restaurants of course.
Last Thanksgiving, quite by accident, Trish and Phil happened
on a newly renovated, waterfront home in the quiet, little com-
munity of Leith that was for sale. The rest is modern history!
From the landscaping to the indoor decor, the home had been
virtually untouched since it had been built by the original own-
ers in the 1960s. Then, when it first came on the market, many
failed to recognize the true potential of the property
due to its tired and dated appearance both inside
and out. “The structure although well built, failed to
truly capture the uniqueness of the lot and surround-
ings.” say Chris McCall and Gil Vanderschot owners
of Quantum Properties. They had a clear vision, pur-
chased the property and embraced the renovation
project. “Our goal was to modernize the living space
with a contemporary feel while emphasizing the attrib-
utes of the Georgian Bay frontage — all the while main-
taining the original footprint of the home.”
For the Caplans, Chris and Gil’s complete, make-over
update of this serene lakeside get-a-way was a dream
come true.
