Shaking off
blah economic times and spring’s wet grip, the home
decor and furnishings industry is busily injecting fantastic colour into every-
thing from pillows to rugs; sofas to wall papers and furniture - which brings
to mind the term 'eye-candy'.
We noticed that zing was the thing at that High Point Furniture Show - the
world’s largest home furnishings showwith 10 million square feet of show-
rooms in 180 buildings with 2000 exhibitors from around the world. There
were red sofas and purple ones then giant geometric prints in neons and
vibrant jewel tones on chairs and accent pieces. Textures and the exotic
showed up with kilim and dhurrie rugs in vegetable dyed eggplant purple,
ochre and lime greens that were used to cover occasional chairs, head-
boards and ottomans.
And bold colour wasn’t enough for the style-istas – they added designs
that were huge, gigantic and over scaled with exuberant paisley and floral
prints adorning bedding and anything else that got in the way.
