Escarpment Magaz ine Summer 2012
Summer
on the Escarpment is an experience not soon to be forgotten. Breath-
taking views and incredible sights, activities for every interest, all ages and all ability lev-
els. This is summer as it should be, as it was meant to be, as it was designed to be.
In the depths of last winter when we first began brainstorming about content that should
be included in our summer issue, we started with a wish list — ‘Simple Summer Pleasures’.
A collection of experiences and ‘must-do’ activities — ideas for kids and grownups alike,
things to see, places to go, where to find what etc. Just when we thought we had every
possible topic covered, someone would come up with another thought and ‘the list’
quickly began to take on a life of its own. The result is what you're holding in your hands
— a true celebration of the season.
I am determined to involve myself in every single activity we have featured in this expan-
sive compilation of fun. Some of course will be easier than others — biking, hiking, gar-
dening — I love them all. Summer food? Yes please. Jumping into a pond? Show me the
way. Golf? Not so much. But... be it resolved—this is the year I'm going to give it an honest
shot. I'm not much of a horse person either, but here again, I’ll try. I vow to gather a fresh
carrot bunch and cozy up to these gentle giants. What have I missed? Fashion. When
Clay outlined his plans for this Summer’s shoot, my jaw dropped. Wait til you see where
he assembled our models. His plan was ambitious, his photos are spectacular!
As a magazine owner, I am a keen magazine reader. One I subscribe to regularly is
the Royal Ontario Museum publication, ROM. In their Spring 2012 issue, there was a
wonderful feature on Coyotes, written by a part-time Thornbury resident, Judith Eger. I
contacted the magazine and asked permission to include this well written, informative
piece in our magazine. Find it on pages 126 thru131. Thank you Judith for your insight.
I hope you approve of the manner in which I have presented your story - it was fun finding
appropriate illustrations and photos to accompany your words.
We have been faithfully attentive to our advertisers in these pages and several features
are direct ‘spotlights’ designed to showcase the many talents of business owners in our
region. We are thrilled to give them this well deserved attention. Please support our local
shops and services wherever your Escarpment explorations take you as you happily
pursue your own, simple summer pleasures. Enjoy.
