New plantations are mandated to be established as older trees
are harvested, in order to ensure ‘genuine mahogany’s’ con-
tinued availability. Licensed processors of raw timber are allo-
cated strict quotas to ensure the continuance of Swietenia
Macrophylla. The near extinction of this precious wood will not
be permitted to occur ever again. Strict controls, such as the
sealing of all containers in Fiji, ensure that every buyer can be
assured of the quality and legitimacy.
Tests conducted in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States have all independently concluded
that genuine mahogany is highly resistant to rotting, splitting, and warping. This means that its un-
paralleled elegance is coupled with distinguished longevity.
This unique resource is now being processed into high quality decking. Mahogany silvers in time
like all hardwood timbers, unless it is coated and maintained. Mahogany accepts a large range of
stains and coatings and for best performance should be coated before being allowed to weather.
As decking, genuine mahogany has been
used in New Zealand and Australia since
2003 with a more recent entrance to the
United States market, but now it has finally
reached Canada. The coming years will
certainly be exciting, as Canadians will
be able to utilize the most sought after
wood in the world.
