Though the residence’s staid
façade,
a not-so-subtle homage to the
stylingof Frank LloydWright, andweighty
stoneworkmight seemangular and sharp,
itsownersareanythingbut.Sowhen itcame
time to plan the build they turned to Paul
RogersofValleyviewConstruction.With37
acres on which to build, the homeowners
chose thisexposed footprintwithpurpose–
choosing to live with the elements, rather
thanbe shielded from them. Thehome’sex-
terior is apatchwork of coated steel, stone
bricks, stuccopanels and smokedash. The
minimalist landscapingallows thearchitec-
ture todo the talkingwhileutilizinghorizon-
tal boulders to frame the greenery and
flat-faced flagstone to sketch thewalkways.
Massive, floor to ceiling windows from
Cedarport offer expansive views and un-
spoiled cohabitationwith the surrounding
beautyof the landbeyond thewalls.Sturdy,
practical andprivate, builder Paul Rogers
succeeded inprovidinga feelingof serene
solitude enhancedby the vast openness of
the windows that run throughout all three
levels of the dwelling. When privacy is
sought the customwindow treatments from
Ashton’sBlinds,almost invisiblewhennot in
use, do the trick perfectly, allowing just the
right amount of natural light,whileconceal-
ing inhabitants within. The oatmeal hued
walls in the great room lend to the unob-
structed feelofnature,withnaturalwoodac-
cents subtlydefiningand separatingeating
