The rain didn't dampen anyone's spirits; all the
local barns were there. One of Jennifer's for-
mer students and the current president of Geor-
gian Bay Trillium Circuit, Dru MacGregor, of
MacGregor Equestrian Farms said, "Trillium is
a great stepping stone. Everyone involved is
very encouraging. It can be very competitive
but also a relaxed atmosphere. There is a divi-
sion for everyone." Dru believes equestrian
"teaches young people about responsibility
and organization." I couldn't agree more!
Standing there in the pouring rain, I watched
as perfectly groomed, glistening white ponies
entered the muddy ring, ridden by little kids
whose feet barely cleared the saddle. These
kids' poise and the determination I saw on their
faces are something to be admired. Riding les-
sons are about more than just learning to ride
a horse. Kim Olynyk, owner of Alpine Eques-
trian, explains that showing "encourages disci-
pline, preparation, teamwork, goal setting,
and sportsmanship. It also teaches kids how to
deal with disappointment and failure."
