Quality, outdoor living
begins with us!
About 10 years ago, Pat and Derrick Strizic contacted Scott Parks, from Park-
lawn Landscaping who dug their swimpond. Spring fed, it is 17 feet deep off
the dock. The dirt collected from the dig was used to create berms at the side
of the house and the rear of the pond.
“It pretty much runs itself,” says Pat, “We planted water lilies and the spiky
blue plants near the bridge, (I forget the name of them) but otherwise the plants
in the pond have naturally arrived. About every other year I spend a day thin-
ning the bullrushes out but otherwise that is all that is required for the plant life.”
“Over the years we have tried stocking it with trout, but with limited success.”
continues Pat, “Mainly it attracts herons, kingfishers, seagulls and cormorants
so the fish don't last that long. We still have a few and we feed them every
week or so. We do enjoy the birds that come to fish, we just wish they would
not take them all.”
To help with the bird problem, the Strizics added two lifelike decoys on the
pond which have helped keep the Canada geese away and they have bub-
blers attached that keep the water moving on hot days for the fish.
