Jesse and Kris Decoste started Icarus Shreducation in 2003 by accident. It came about
on one of Jesse’s visits home from the pro snowboarding tour. “Kris asked if I would help
him out at a local inter club event and a parent recognized me.” Remembers Jesse. “They
asked me to ride with their kid and I agreed. Then they wanted me to ride and help them
out even more. So I did, for expenses—gas and food. Then it turned into a regular thing
and the rider’s friends started showing up and wanting pointers. The rest is history.”
Since then the program has helped develop over 75 athletes from around the world,
produced 20 National Team athletes from 4 countries and 5 Olympians. Shreducation
has coached two-time silver medallist Danny Kass along with other big names like Jeff
Batchelor, Palmer Taylor, Harrison Gray, Anthony Wolf, Craig Beaulieu, Alex Duck-
worth, Paulina Ligocka, Sarah Conrad and Louie Vito (by far the most famous from his
dancing with the stars stint).
The 2 head coaches for Shreducation, Jesse and Kris (both fromMeaford) were selected
to coach the National Team at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010. In the span of a year,
those coaches have taken athletes from 46
th
to number 2 in the world. Shreducation is
the only program to win 3 consecutive world Championship Medals, and combined
they have over 400 podiums and over half a million in winnings. Including over 30
World Cup, Global Open, National Championship, Dew Tour and Grand Prix
Medals. The program has helped produce over 20 paid Professional Snowboarders,
and together they have acquired over 45 unique sponsorships with a value of over 1.5
million dollars.
