Escarpment Magazine Winter 2013
Thousands
of spectators will be treated to one of the most exciting action sports spectacles on the
planet as four riders at a time jostle their way through a course of jumps and banked turns to be first to the
finish through a series of knock-out rounds and then an exciting final race for the medals.
And while the fastest athletes across the line will be crowned champions, Canada Snowboard hopes that
the true rewards of hosting this international competitionwill be reaped by the next generation of Canadian
snowboardcross competitors.
Noting that most grassroots snowboard clubs and programs don’t have the funds or resources to build
WorldCup or evenNorAm-level training venues, Canada Snowboardwasn’t about to let a top-level course
go to waste, especially not one created by Olympic course designer Jeff Ihaksi.
The Pemberton, B.C.-based Ihaksi was in charge of the snowboardcross courses for both the Torino and
Vancouver Winter Olympic Games and he is building the course for the Blue MountainWorld Cup.
