WithSun Peak’s expansion, it’s onlygettingbetter – the new terrain
will increase the amount of acreage available for advanced skiers
and riders andoffer moreoff-pisteopportunities for intermediates in
asafeandavalanchecontrolledarea.New runs in theWestMorrisey
areawillbeexpertability levelandutilize thesameaspectas thepop-
ular StaticClingandAgitator ski runs. The second section, Gil’s—a
popularbackcountryskiareaat the topof TodMountain—will see the
area’s vertical doublewith the creationof a lower
ski-out, back to themain ski runs.
TheSunPeaksGrandHotel&ConferenceCentre,
the resort’ssignaturepropertyand full-servicehotel,
is situated in the core of the village, with chairlifts,
trails andactivities conveniently located right out-
side. Once again, Sun Peaks took expediency to
thenext level–wesimplywalkedout thedoorof the
hotel, clicked in andwewere off. At the endof the day, we left our
skiswith the ski conciergeandheaded to theopen-airmountain-view
pool andhot tubs, a favouritewith thekids (andmyaching legs).
Wehadnoneed for a car at Sun Peaks as the village is reasonably
compact and it’seasy to stroll around thepedestrian-only, snowcov-
eredstreets.SunPeaks isa trueski-in, ski-outalpinevillagesurrounded
by360°of skiingandboasts incredibleaccess toover30kmworld-
classNordic/Snowshoegroomedand trackset trails.
After hours there isplentyof fun tobehad– including snow tubing, a
bungee trampoline, andeven night skiingon the little lift outsideour
hotel. Our son loved showingoff in the “green” terrain park, while
Dakand I sippedouraprèsdrinkon thepatiooverlooking thehill.Did
Imention that SunPeaksalsocaters to foodieswithagreat selection
of restaurants, andannual foodandwine festivals? It’s like they’ve
thought of everything.
Onour last evening,our familyenjoyeda twilight
horse drawn sleigh ride through theVillage and
surrounding trails.Andeven thoughour trip toSun
Peakswas severalmonthsagowe still love to talk
about “KittyCat andSable”, thebeautiful horses
thatwemetonour trip.Aftera familyvacation like
this,wecertainlywon’twait another10yearsbe-
fore returning toSunPeaks.Wepackeda lot into
our5-dayvacationandcamehome filledwith stories,memoriesand
a new found love of tree skiing – it just goes to show, evenOntario
kidscanshred thedeep, interiorBCgnar ifgiven theopportunity.
