Escarpment Magazine Winter 2014
Twelve years ago
Kim Eckersley and her husband Anthony
began searching for property on which to build their Escarpment
weekend, dream home. The lot they fell in love with, was private,
quiet and ideally situated within the Blue Mountains but sadly,
Anthony passed away before that dreamwas realized. Following
that tragedy, Kim with her two children nearly grown, decided
the time seemed right to finally build and make a permanent move
to this region.
Kim gives huge praise to her interior designer Helen Thomson for
helping her with the major decision-making. Building a home
alone was a daunting thought.
“I couldn’t have gotten to where I am without Helen,” explains
Kim. “I had a lot of decisions to make and it became really over-
whelming. For a single person, I didn’t have anybody to get into
bed at night with and say, ‘Well what do you think of this honey?’
When Helen came in, she really took the pressure off and helped
me streamline my ideas. She did the layout of the kitchen, she did
my colours, and she helped me choose stone. I couldn’t have
done it without her.”
TheWengeii Kitchen fits Kim’s mimimalist esthetic using clean, un-
cluttered, strategic lines. The counters are Caesarstone, chosen
for the simplicity and functionality and all appliances are from
Macdonalds in Meaford.
