The lot is 300 feet long, so Kim had a great deal of flexibility for acheiving what she wanted. Working
with an architect, she decided on a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired style — Wright believed in designing
structures which were in harmony with humanity and its environment, a philosophy he called organic
architecture — a way of thinking that is completely in line with that of Kim’s. Builder Paul Rogers,
Valleyview Construction, brought it all together and made the process a pleasure. Kim, who was still
living in Unionville at the time of the build explains, “Paul was so trustworthy and easy to work with
- he sent me photos everyday and we would review everything together on weekends.”
Kim wanted a freely flowing, open concept containing other dramatic features in the home that would
have a “Wow!” effect, such as the staircase, the fireplace and the entryway. Kim was adamant that
the staircase not be attached to a wall. She wanted the illusion of a floating staircase with the ability
to look through the glass right through to the fireplace. And, perhaps most importantly, Kim insisted
that the front door was to be the main entrance into her home, where family and guests would be
welcomed rather than being directed to a side door or through the garage.
