After16yearsofprovidingoutstandingcare,
and
withclose to50,000patient visits,Dr. JohnBowman,SportMedicinePhysician
and founder of theCollingwoodSportMedicine&RehabilitationCentre, has
retired. ThispastAugust Johnhanded the torch to twoexperiencedSportMed-
icinePhysicians,Dr. KarenMurtaughandDr. JackCeaser.
Johnwill be greatlymissedby his teamand the community, but is excited to
move into the next stage of his lifewith hiswife Judy. In addition to the new
SportMedicineDoctors,CollingwoodSportMedicine&RehabilitationCentre
welcomesDr.Daniela Lanc, anMD specializing inPhysicalMedicineandRe-
habilitation. John knows all three physicians well, having collaboratedand
workedwith them throughout thepast few years and is at ease knowing that
hispatients, and formerpractice, are inverygoodhands.
Dr. KarenMurtaugh has been practicingas a PrimaryCare SportMedicine
Physician inanumber of clinics since finishingher SportMedicine Fellowship
at McMaster University in 2007. She has provided vacation coverage on
manyoccasions forDr.Bowmanand is familiarwithourcommunity.Karenhas
workedasaconsultingphysicianat the2015PanAmGamesand theWhistler
Polyclinicduring theVancouver2010OlympicGames.Shehasalsobeen the
racephysician for the TorontoWomen’sHalfMarathon in Torontoand is ac-
tively involved in teachingasanAssistantClinical Professor (Adjunct),Depart-
ment of FamilyMedicine,McMasterUniversity.
Dr. JackCeaser graduated from theMcMasterMD Program in 2002, and
completed his residency through theNortheasternOntario FamilyMedicine
Program.He then finisheda fellowship inPrimaryCareSport&ExerciseMed-
icine from theUniversityof Toronto in2005and receivedhisDiploma inSport
Medicine in2006. For thepast 10years hehaspracticedboth FamilyMedi-
cineandSport&ExerciseMedicine inSudbury.He isanAssistant Professorat
theNorthernOntarioSchoolofMedicine. Jackwas teamphysician for theOHL
SudburyWolves and Sudbury Gladiators Football. He has worked with
HockeyCanadawith theirNationalWomen’s Development &U18 teams.
Jackalso travelledwith theCanadianTeams to the2011SummerUniversiade
(UniversityOlympics) inChinaand the2013Games inRussia. Hehas acted
asChiefMedicalOfficer for the2010OntarioSummerGames, andactedas
CMO for Canadaat the firstWinter YouthOlympicGames in2012, in Inns-
bruck,Austria.Most recently, Jackwas theChiefMedicalOfficer for the2015
SummerUniversiade inGwangju, SouthKorea.
Dr.Daniela Lanc isMedicalDoctor specializing inPhysicalMedicineandRe-
habilitation. After graduating from JeanVanier High School inCollingwood,
Dr. Lanccompletedher Bachelor ofHealthSciencesandDoctor ofMedicine
degreesatWesternUniversity inLondon.ShecontinuedherResidency training
atWestern inPhysicalMedicineandRehabilitationandcompletedaSpecial-
ization inSportandExerciseMedicine though theFowlerKennedySportMed-
icineClinic inLondon,Ontario.Dr. Lanc’spracticewill focuson thenon-surgical
managementofmuscle,nerveandneurologicalproblems includingstrokeand
neurological diseases, electromyography, acquiredbrain injury, spinal cord
injury andamputee care. Her clinical interests also include bracingandor-
thoses, concussion/mild traumaticbrain injury rehabilitationaswell as useof
botulinum toxin injections for spasticityandheadachemanagement. Dr. Lanc
will seepatientson referral fromotherphysicians.
