Four years ago,
Casey Thomson, owner of theCheeseGallery
andLeslieLewis,ownerofEvolutionHim&Her,wereenjoyinga freedin-
neratBridgesTavern,aspartofa“LadiesEat Free”promotion, thebrain-
childof previousBridgesownerMeredithBrown. “EachWednesday in
themonthofNovember Bridgeswouldhavea restaurant packed full of
ladies,”explainsCasey. “We thought,maybeThornburybusinessowners
could capitalize on this.” In its first year, 12 local businesses came on
boardandGlamapaloozawasborn.
November can be a tryingmonth for retailers (andas I can attest: for
mothers andwives and sisters anddaughters). Now, in its fourth year,
over 25 businesses have joined this annual celebration of downtown
Thornburybusinesses.Glamapaloozaoffersadayandaneveningofen-
joyment and variety includingopen houses, special events andan all-
aroundgood timeaimedat givingwomenadayoff anda night on the
town.
Theorganizingcommittee (which is still abarebones teamofCaseyand
Leslie)designated theofficialGlamapaloozacolour tobepink, and last
yearGlamapalooza teamed upwith theCollingwoodG&MHospital,
and raisedover $1200 for their digital mammography unit: a tangible
returnon investment forwomenof TheBlueMountains.
Thornburybusinessowners (whoare90% female)haveenjoyedaneco-
nomic boost, posting record sales numbers and stayingopen past mid-
night,while ladieswhohave travelled fromalloverOntariohaveenjoyed
anentireday filledwithpre-Christmaspamperingand shopping.
New this year, an après shoppingdance partywill be hostedat Rafe
Resto-Lounge, followedby aChampagne breakfast Fridaymorningat
TheCheeseGallery.TheRoyalHarbourResortandWestinTrilliumHouse
have signed upas accommodation partners, offeringdeepdiscounts,
startingat$105/night plus tax.Of course, noGlamapaloozawouldbe
completewithoutmaleunderwearmodelsdancing in thewindowsofEvo-
