Canadian climate, migrate to the Escarpment
eachwinter, seekingwind-scoured fields
reminiscent of the treeless tundra of theArctic.
A delight towildlife photographers,
like Cameron T Powell, thesemajestic raptors
are also often spotted in and around
the headwaters of SouthernGeorgian Bay.

has been in Cameron
(Cam) T Powell’s blood, ever sincehis father, anavid
birdwatcher, suggestedphotographingbirds in their
naturalhabitat inorder toproperly identify them.Over
the last decade or so Cam has become a bit of a
celebrity in theSnowyOwl Photographyworld.
“It’sabitofascavengerhunt,”explainsCam. “Mother
Naturewill throwyoucurveballs.Youdon’t necessar-
ilyneed to travel for birds—birdswill come toyou. But
you need to know your terrain, your environment, so
forme, a lot of it is trying tounderstand the territories,
whenbirdsmigrateandwhen theymovearound.”
