Reserve because the residents of this signifi-
cant ecosystem have successfully balanced
conservationandpreservationwith surround-
ingdevelopment.

1675 foot cliffs,
clear streams,wet-
lands, pebbled
beaches, rolling
hills, pristinewater-
falls,wildlifehabi-
tats, historic sites,
villages, towns
andcities.

BruceTrail spans
more than890km
ofmainTrail andover
400kmof associated side trails.
A charitable organization, The Bruce Trail
Conservancy, supported by roughly 9,000
members, is committed tomaintaininga con-
servationcorridorcontainingapublic footpath
along the Niagara Escarpment, in order to
protect its natural ecosystemsand topromote
environmentally responsiblepublic access to
thisUNESCOWorldBiosphereReserve.
Every year, 400,000 visits are made to the
Trail as peoplewalk, cross country-ski, snow-
shoe,watchwildlife, takephotographsand
admire theglorioussceneryof theEscarpment.
ABoardofDirectorsgoverns theBTCandvol-
unteers from9BruceTrailClubsare responsi-
ble formaintaining, stewardingandpromoting
the Trail. Today, more than1,450 volunteers
donate their time
and talents to the
Bruce Trail Conser-
vancy and its nine
member Clubs. By
providing an op-
portunity toexplore
theEscarpment, the
Trail has helped in-
crease awareness
of the uniqueness
and richdiversityof
this landform.
