Welcoming, functional and
contemporary
were theobjectives
in renovating thisclassic loghomequi-
etly set in thewoodsat thebaseof the
Escarpment. To create the openness
the couple desired, the first order of
business was to remove the original
second floor master—this allowed for
the creation of a soaring, beamed
cathedral ceiling in the great room.
Floor to ceiling, Velux windows by
Cedarport Windows and Doors in
Thornburywereadded, allowingnat-
ural light to flood thisnewlyexpanded
space.BradAbbott cleverly resituated
the original upstairs bedrooms to the
far endof the home, incorporatinga
main floormaster. Thisallowed forun-
hindered living spacewhere the cou-
ple can entertain friends without
interferingwith thosewhowish to turn
inearly (inexchange for first tracksat
BlueMountain).
Colourfulpopsof furnitureanddécor
take centre stage set against the neu-
tral hueof thepoured-concrete floors
(equippedwith in-floor radiant heat-
ing) which run throughout the main
level.Oversized, turquoisearea rugs
in the living and dining spaces intro-
duce animated interest along with
function. Thenaturalpalateof the sec-
tional sofa reflects thespiritandmuted
tones of birch trees, which line the
property beyond while two, cozy
wool ottomans in fuchsiaand tanger-
ineadd textureandplayfulness.
