SPRING IS IN THE AIR
and feelings of rejuvenation may be flowing
through your mind and body. Your first impulse may be to shed a few
extra pounds, get a new haircut or set out on your annual shopping
spree to find the perfect new wardrobe – basically an ‘external’
makeover! Makeovers bring in feelings of hope, happiness and excite-
ment and are a great way to ignite our spirits, and for some, these feel-
ings can last a long time. For many however, the makeover is only a
temporary high until those feelings of dissatisfaction start creeping in
again. A recent study has shown that very few experiences affect us
for more than three months. So what’s the key to a lasting makeover?
Try a life makeover! A life makeover is all about being happy and con-
tent from the inside out. It’s a way of aligning what you want in your
life with your inner guidance system.
Happiness is when what you think, what you say,
and what you do are in harmony.

If you are serious about change in your life, start by shifting your
thoughts and beliefs. From when you first started your journey on this
beautiful planet, your mind has been taking in what has been happen-
ing all around you and forming beliefs based on these experiences.
These beliefs are now programmed into your subconscious. It’s no won-
der that in many instances it’s so difficult to make changes that last –
you are fighting patterns that have been set for years. Until recently,
scientists believed that the brain was a physiologically static organ and
so you were stuck with what you had all your life. Today, neuroplastic-
ity (brain’s ability to reorganize itself) studies are proving that changes
in neural pathways and synapses are possible and, that the brain
changes throughout life. So the question remains – How do you get
your life makeover started?
BE AWARE
Change is about growth and it requires
becoming aware. It’s about ending the pattern of the
old self and creating a new self - you decide how you
no longer want to be. Awareness is a constant process
and something that requires little time; as you live your
daily experiences, just allow your awareness to emerge.
Be aware of what your thoughts are when you act or
react in certain ways – are these the thoughts you want
to have as your new self? You may choose to write your
observations or simply keep a mental note. Being aware
of what your present self is thinking will help you deter-
mine what changes you want to make to create your
new self. It’s like the blueprint of your life makeover!
ADJUST YOUR ATTITUDE
It’s not enough to simply be aware of
your present thoughts, a life makeover is about your decision to no
longer think, act or feel in expectable ways. Whatever you do each
day, you can do it as your old self with feelings of fear or resentment or
you can do it as your new self with a feeling of lightness, ease and
choice. You have a choice regarding the attitude you will embrace for
each day of your life. You cannot change your past or how others act;
the only thing you can do is choose your attitude when dealing with
life’s circumstances. Life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90
percent how you react to it. And so, it is up to you, choose to respond
as your new self instead of simply react as your old self - you are in
charge of your attitude!
BE GRATEFUL
If you’re feeling down or lonely, find something to be
grateful for – anything! When you are appreciating, you are allowing
well-being into your life. It is very difficult not to smile and feel good
when you are thinking about people or things you appreciate - the sun,
the flowers, your body that allows you to see, smell, hear, taste and do
such wonderful things every day. Your life makeover will be successful
if you shift wherever you may be to a better-feeling state of apprecia-
tion, and you will find that the world shifts around you!
