Escarpment Magazine Summer 2013
Avid skiers
and road bikers, the
couple happened upon a 23-acre parcel
of land with expansive views of the Escarp-
ment, two directions of classic roads plead-
ing to be cycled, and a bird’s eye view of
their adored Beaver Valley Ski Club.
The couple enlisted Architect Brad Abbott
of Abbott Design to plan their dream home
atop the Escarpment. Pursuing perfection
doesn’t come without a few setbacks how-
ever; as the couple learned that the build-
ing would have to sit significantly back
from the lip of the bluff in accordance with
the Niagara Escarpment Commission’s
building regulations. Enter custom builder
Dave Harrington of Absolute Craftsmen,
who erected a scaffolding structure mid-
winter so the couple could see for them-
selves that the unobstructed views from
their proposed second floor were equally
as breathtaking when pushed back 30 me-
tres. The couple was convinced they had
found the locality of their new home – in a
word, they were “Dunluken”.
