What’syour favouritecolour?
It seemsweall haveone, even ifwe’renot
awareof it.What is it about colour? It playsa role in somuch thatwedo. It signifieseventsand
makesa statement about beliefs. Itspresenceannouncesemotion, accompanies celebrations
and identifieswherewebelong—our team, ourpolitics, ourmood—if youneedan instant
pick-me-up, a splashof colourwill help.Childrenget it. Theyusecolourwith recklessabandon.
Lookat theirart.More ismore. It’s fun towatch theprocessas their littleminds instinctivelygo
fordoing it theway they see it—not theway it ‘shouldbe’. It’sexcitement aboutwhat’saround
themand thenoveltyof discovering somethingnew.Of courseacowcanbepurple. Look,
really look, andyou’ll see—ablackbird isn’t black.
The renownedFrenchartist, EdouardManet said, “Thereareno lines innature, only
areasof colour, oneagainst another.”Hisworkwas controversial becausehechose
topaint lifeasheactually saw it—in ‘modern’ terms. "I paintwhat I seeandnotwhat
others like to see."
Springdisplays thisnotion inastonishingcontrastsof spontaneityand joyful
juxtapositionsof colours that affect ourbehaviourandmood. This issue, like the season
itself, celebrates thecomebackof colour. It’soverflowingwithcolourful people, places,
ideasandeventswhichhopefully,will inspireyou toputmorecolour intoyour life.
