Fundraising iscritical to theongoingsuccessofOntarioTrack3.Grow-
ing insizeandnumbers, lastyear theTrack3FriendsandFamilyRaceDay raised
over$60,000! The thirdannual Track3FriendsandFamilyRaceDaywill take
placeonFebruary13, 2015atCraigleithSkiClub. Participantswill enjoygate
training in themorningwithanafternoonGS race.Non racersalsoexperience
the thrill of runninggates in the “guess your time race”. Last year nine year old
Track 3 student AbbieVanduzer fell several timeson the steeppitch of the Big
John run, but kept picking herself upwithout the helpof her volunteers. This ex-
perience sparkedan interest in racingandAbbie isnowamemberof theAlpine
OntarioParaRacedevelopment team.Bothnewandexperienced racerspartic-
ipated last year, includingmembers of theOntarioandCanadianpara racing
teams. Among them, Erin Latimer, who representedCanadaat theSochi Para-
lympicsa fewweeks laterandZoeBarns,ayoungadultwhohas raced inseveral
SpecialOlympics.
“It is a fun filledday for skiers of all ages andabilities, and even for
non-skiers,”explainedEventOrganizerMargaret Isberg. "Participantscansimply
enjoyadayof free skiingat thebeautifulCraigliethSkiClub, or can signup for
beginner ski or snowboard lessons, guided snow shoe treks, sitski rides, gate
trainingor races.”
At the2012event,NikZoricic, amember of theCanadian ski cross
team, was a surprise guest at the aprèswhomodeledand then auctioned his
teamcoat tohelp raise funds forOntarioTrack3.Sadly,Nikwaskilled later that
year at aWorldCup race inSwitzerland.At the2013RaceDay, theNZFoun-
dation, created inNik’smemory topromote safety in skiing, presentedOntario
Track3withacheque topurchaseanew sitski.
Dozensof volunteersandsponsorsmake theeventpossible, including
Squire John’s, B&B Catering, Alpine Canada, Steam Whistle Brewing,
Softchoice, TheGeorgianBayClubandmanymore. The2015event isshaping
up tobeanother fun-filledand inspiringday.Wehope to seeyou there!
