things to enjoy
Meaford Hall Arts & Cultural Centre
is pairing great live music
with fabulous food this summer, all rolled up in a sunny and relaxing
spot on the Terrace. Prepare to entertain your senses with the food
stylings of local culinary talent Christine Collins (The Kitchen) and six
different talented local artists through the summer. “Dinner on the Ter-
race” runs every other Thursday beginning the end of June. On June
27, DrewMcIvor brings “acoustic chill with a world soul,” followed by
Sacha Law & John Eaton kicking off the East Coast Music Fest July 11,
singer/songwriter Will Matthews July 25, pianist Jim Kinnear August
8, the very groovy Jazztex August 22 and roots/blues/Americana artist
Romney Getty September 5.
On the mainstage in the historic Opera House at Meaford Hall for sum-
mer is a wide variety of music with a smash of theatre for good measure.
The annual East Coast Music Fest runs July 11 to 13, starting with a
Maritime-inspired dinner (mmm...seafood rolls) on the Terrace, and
Amelia Curran, The Once and Andrew James O’Brien live on stage.
Following this is the legendary Downchild Blues Band July 17. Don’t
miss The Irish Rovers June 21– if you’ve been waiting to see them wait
no longer as they’re retiring from touring this year! August features live
professional theatre August 9 (matinee and evening) & 10 (evening)
withMelody A. Johnson inMiss Caledonia: “Melody A. Johnson’s one-
woman play displays all the old-fashioned virtues that a pageant con-
testant ideally should: talent, inner beauty and especially charm. Forget
the in-your-face crassness of Honey Boo Boo; here’s a winning show
you’d take your grandmother or your granddaughter to in a wink,” says
The Globe & Mail. Enjoy this show complimented by a delish meal
catered by Christine Collins: come for lunch and the matinee or dinner
and the evening show on August 9. Hear exemplary songwriter/musi-
cian Catherine MacLellan “stitching together elegantly woven songs
with her memorable blend of heartfelt lyrics and catchy melodies” on
August 15. Wrap up August and start September with a bang at the
Meaford International Film Festival – this is the seventh annual event
featuring four nights, four films and four parties! On September 12 hear
fourth-generation bluegrass/country/folk-rock musicians The Abrams
Brothers: “(they’ve been) blowing away audiences across North Amer-
ica, Europe and Israel for the past several years with their virtuoso play-
ing and effortless harmonies,” says The Toronto Star. With so much
going on at Southern Georgian Bay’s premier arts & cultural destina-
tion, make your plans now! Call your friends and family to get together
for great food and great entertainment all summer long at Meaford Hall
Arts & Cultural Centre, perched perfectly at the Southern tip of Geor-
gian Bay, just 30 minutes west of Collingwood.
