Development
At a recent meeting of the Georgian Triangle Development Institute (GTDI), it was noted that
many of the cornerstone development projects in the area are effectively “on hold”. The residen-
tial component of The Village at Blue Mountain (though Blue did recently announce a huge in-
vestment in their conference center and tennis facilities to the tune of a ten million dollars), The
Shipyards, and The Admiral Collingwood project are all on the back-burner right now. This being
said, there is still significant movement taking place with many developments in the area.
Windrose Estates
has been investing heavily in their project near Osler Bluff. Landscaping and
model homes are just the tip of the iceberg. It was recently announced that MacPherson Homes
is coming into the fold. After their successful development of The Orchard at Craigleith, this part-
nership will produce a new model home, and hopefully move the project forward rapidly.
Trailwoods
in Thornbury has seen an upswing in activity with some recent lot sales, and the open-
ing of a model home. They are in the process of expanding their builder program so that a huge
variety of “in the box” solutions can be offered to Buyers looking to settle in this Thornbury com-
munity.
The Ridge Estates just announced that ground had been broken on a new home being constructed
by

.
Work at
Summit Shores
has been steadily progressing. The new site signage is up at this devel-
opment just across from Georgian Peaks Ski Club, and work will begin shortly on 13 units with
initial occupancy before ski season.
Lora Bay
has seen an upsurge in activity recently. There were 13 new builds last year with
Reid’s
Heritage Homes and Design2000
. A new model home in ‘ The Master Series’ on the ridge is
now open. Only 10 of 27 cottages are left by the Lora Bay private beach .
The new “Dwell” units at
Creekside
in Collingwood are under construction. The model suite is
anticipated in September, and the units will start at $214,900. The JJ Cooper “Eco Park” in
Creekside
is complete, and features slides, a toboggan hill & naturally inspired play apparatuses,
with hook up to Black Ash Creek trail system.
At many other developments, things are progressing apace. There has been steady absorption
of inventory units across the board, but not deep lineups at the sales centers that many developers
would like to see. This has become the new normal, but don’t get used to it. The only thing con-
stant in the real estate market is change. The fundamentals of this market and the reasons this is
such a great place to live, haven’t changed. People will continue to discover what we already
know. Living up here is fantastic!
