Nothing signals spring
inOwenSound
like themo-
ment InglisFalls shrugsoff itswin-
ter armour with a thunderous
crash, the swift current escorting
the icy shards along the Syden-
hamRiverout toGeorgianBay,as
if to say “Adieu,” or “Enough al-
ready.”
Inglis Falls is rewardingany time
of year but inSpring its energy is
palpable,and it’seasy to imagine
the strong cascadepowering the
gristmill thatoncestood there.

Ingliswelcomesabout35,000vis-

son. It’s easily accessible with
ample parking, public wash-
rooms, interpretivesignage,apic-
nic areaand theBruce Trail on its
doorstep, fanning out to seven
kilometres of hard-packed trails.
Here, a visitorwill find carpets of
trilliumsand trout lilies inmid-May,
givingway tonumerous varieties
of shade-loving ferns as thedays
growwarmer, treebudsopenand
the forest canopy thickens.
Hikers can venture fromonewa-
terfall toanother along theBruce
Trail: From Inglis to Weaver’s
Creek Falls is about 2.6 km
through hardwood forest along
theSydenhamRiver,while Inglis
to Jones Falls is a 10 km stretch
that affords panoramic views of
thecity from the topof theescarp-
ment. Bring insect repellant in the
spring, or head out on a cool,
windyday.
