ThisSpring,
we’veselectedasectionof the
Bruce Trail that runs from the top of Grey
Road 19 through the Kolapore Uplands to
MetcalfRock (roughly5kilometers in length).
ThissegmentofBruceTrailwinds throughma-
ture deciduous forest with spectacular dis-
plays of Trilliums found along theway. The
trail traverses undulating terrain providing
brief viewsof the rollingcountrysidebeyond.
WildLeeksandmanyspeciesof Ferngrow in
a spotty patchwork throughout the uplands.
Deer, Wild Turkey and upland game birds
likeRuffedGrousealsocall thisareahome. If
you walk quietly and keep a keen eye on
your surroundings, youmight be surprisedat
howmuchwildlifeyouwill .

With thegrasses laid flatby the
weightofmeltedsnowandno
leaves toobstruct your view,
the forest appears tobewide
openandalmostempty. Aswe
move through theseason, the
woodlandsquicklychange.
Budding leaves transform the
landscape frombrown togreen,
withwildflowersaddingbright
specklesof colouralong the
forest floor.
