While “Meaford” and “entertainment”
may not be two words
commonly associated in your vocabulary, they should be. With an arts
centre presenting over 50 live shows a year – this may be the best-kept
secret to both locals and those from further afield. However, this is not
intentional.
People who pass through the grand, historic, 100 year-old building for
one of the many year-round functions consistently comment on the
beauty of the facility, the quality of the shows (and sound) and the fact
that they wish they has a space like this in their town. Part of the beauty
is the location: 30 minutes to Collingwood, 10 to Thornbury, an hour
to Wasaga and Stayner, 20 minutes to Owen Sound and just a little
over an hour to Barrie…an easy drive frommany places. See an award-
winning artist, have a great night out and don’t worry about parking
(it’s all free), no traffic or hefty ticket prices… Meaford Hall Arts & Cul-
tural Centre is the perfect spot for your next concert.
The summer brochure is about to go to print…along with the smell of
fresh ink on crisp paper comes a brand new season of entertainment!
Hear the music on a hot summer night as it drifts out of the historic Opera
House carrying the sounds of Vancouver’s Hey Ocean!, Toronto’s Sky-
diggers, PEI’s Catherine MacLellan and many more.
The 2013 Blues Series, featuring multipleMaple Blues and Juno award-
winners, includes MonkeyJunk in June, the legendary Downchild Blues
Band in July and Teresa Levasseur for October. Catch three nights of
all things Maritime (including food!) in July with the second annual East
Coast Music Fest featuring The Once, Andrew James O’Brien (Nfld)
and Amelia Curran (NS). See professional live theatre in August as
Melody A. Johnson stars in Miss Caledonia: the National Post says “ir-
resistible…heartwarming” the Globe and Mail calls it “a winning
show.” Finish off a fabulous summer with the Meaford International
Film Festival – this annual event sells out every year - don’t wait to get
your tickets!
Enjoy summer even more with Dinner on the Terrace. New for this
year…enjoy a casual catered dinner as you soak up the last rays of the
day, cocktail in hand, listening to live music featuring one of SGB’s
many talented musical artists. A perfect way to wind down the day or
start the weekend, this event runs every other Thursday from late June
to early September.
With so many events going on at Meaford Hall, make your next entertainment
destination Meaford – you’ll be glad you did.
