Throughout the process, we have tried
tomaintain internal details.Wherever
possible, we have refinished the original
wooden floors, and freshened up the
Edwardian trim and baseboards.Where
we built new, we didn't try tomatch the
trim exactly, but instead contrasted
it with clean lines.

Through their research, thehomeowners have found census and
registryofficedocuments,which support that ahousehas existed
on thisproperty since1855, however it isdoubtful that thecurrent
structurewasbuilt earlier than1880. The timber joists in thebase-
ment aremadeof hemlock,which is not native to thearea, and it
hasbeen suggested that thebeamswere floateddown fromMan-
itoulin Island.
Acloseneighbour,whose familyhasowned theirpropertysince the
1870sexplains thathishomehadoriginallybeenwood frame,and
wasbricked in1906usingbricks from the localbrickyard located
onwhat isnowHighway26, near the townofMeaford. It hasnot
beenestablishedwhether the brickson thishomeoriginatedat the
samebrickyardbut if you look closelyyou can see that thebricks
werehandpressed inmolds.
